Therapy in English

In terms of therapy, all our psychologists employ evidence-based cognitive behavior therapy, also known as CBT. Evidence-based means that the CBT-methods we use have been shown to be safe and effective, as well as evidencing superior effectiveness to alternative treatment methods in the best available scientific research. These methods are fitted to each individual client based on the client’s unique circumstance and preferences, the best available scientific evidence regarding safety and efficacy of treatment elements for the factors and mechanisms involved in the individual’s particular set of problems, and the psychologist’s experience with similar problems. Everything to make sure that our clients receive the best possible treatment.

It is important to understand that CBT should be regarded as a broad range of approaches that have to be tailored at the individual level to achieve optimal effect. In some cases, even to achieve any effect at all or to avoid potentially deteriorating the client’s condition.

For instance, one very particular type of therapy has proven especially effective for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): cognitive behavioral therapy with exposure with response prevention. Despite its lengthy name, it usually treats OCD within 12-16 sessions, whereas standard CBT has displayed no effect. Other types of therapies, for instance psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches, have been shown sometimes to exacerbate OCD-symptoms.

Similarly, panic disorder is most effectively treated with a specially adapted type of exposure, called interoceptive exposure, insomnia (a type of sleep disturbance with daytime sleepiness and trouble sleeping at night) is best treated with CBT for insomnia (CBT-I), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is usually overcome quickest and safest when a kind of trauma focused CBT (TF-CBT) is employed. For all of these, other approaches exist for which evidence of the effectiveness is either lacking or the scientific data has shown them to be ineffective or indeed harmful.

For more information on various psychological issues, how they usually manifest, maintaining factors and mechanisms, and how they are treated, please refer to the Danish section of our webpage. We are currently working on expanding our English information for the benefit of English-speaking individuals in Denmark, so a lot will be available in English soon. For now, we hope you can make do with Google Translate or the help of someone, who has mastered the Danish language and is willing to translate.

Assessments and evaluations in English

We conduct assessments of a wide range of emotional, behavioral, academic, neuropsychological, and neuropsychiatric issues. These range from intelligence testing to quite comprehensive evalutions of suspected ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, social pragmatic disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD or emotional disorders, broad psycho-educational issues, specific learning disorders, language development, attention, memory, executive functioning and various specific cognitive deficits.

Depending on the complaints and concerns and the purpose of the assessment, the instruments employed range from intelligence tests, such as the WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WAIS-IV and RIAS, narrow-range neuropsychological tests such as the d2-r, RCFT, RPM, WCST, and CCPT, to comprehensive test batteries, such as the ADOS-2CELF-4, WIAT-III, D-KEFS, TOMAL-2, and TEA-Ch.  The standardized neuropsychological measures above are typically combined behavior rating measures of the pertinent cognitive, behavioral, or emotional domains across a specified time frame. They often include the BRIEF-2, SCQ, ASSQ, ADHD-RS, CONNERS-3, CBRS, SP-2, ABAS-3, CBCL, CAARS, AQ, or observations in natural circumstances.

A lot of families use our services when moving in or out of Denmark, as intelligence or psycho-educational evaluations are required for children’s admission to certain schools in Denmark, particularly in Copenhagen, and international schools abroad.
